Types of Acne & Marks

Whiteheads & Blackheads
Blocked follicles, open or closed, without active infection yet — left alone, these are usually what develops into inflamed acne.
Papules & Pustules
Inflamed, raised bumps signalling bacterial activity in the follicle — papules are firm and red, pustules carry visible pus at the surface.
Nodules & Cysts
Deeper, more painful lesions sitting under the skin, and the ones most likely to leave permanent scarring behind once they heal.
Atrophic (Depressed) Scars
The most common scarring left by inflammatory acne, caused by a loss of tissue volume deep in the skin.
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
Flat dark or red marks left after a breakout heals — extremely common on Indian skin tones, and a pigmentation issue rather than true scarring.
Hypertrophic & Keloid Scars
Raised, firm scars that form when skin overproduces collagen while healing, most often seen along the jaw, shoulders, and chest.
